Chiropractic is a natural approach to correcting musculoskeletal dysfunction.
Interference with the bodys muscular, nervous and skeletal systems impairs many
important musculoskeletal functions. A Doctor of Chiropractic uses manipulative
therapy, physiotherapy, therapeutic exercises, massage, and nutritional support
are part of patient care when appropriate. Injuries like sprains (ankle),
strains (eg. pulled muscles), tendonitis (eg. tennis elbow) and bursitis (eg.
shoulder pain) and joint problems in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip,
knee, ankle, and foot can all be treated effectively with chiropractic care.
These are all good reasons to seek chiropractic care. However, the beauty of
Chiropractic is not only drug-free and surgery free care, but also preventative
and performance enhancing care. Maintaining proper alignment will allow athletes
to be prepared for their sport.
Many of the greatest athletes in the world are adjusted before competition as a
"tune-up" in an effort to place their bodies in a state of peak efficiency.
Following competition, they are adjusted to enhance the recuperative process
after the stress of their particular event. When asked about chiropractics
effectiveness, Tiger Woods stated, "lifting weights and seeing a chiropractor on
a regular basis has made me a better golfer."
Chiropractors are concerned with a patients overall well-being and recognize that
many factors affect health, including: stress, exercise, diet, rest, environment
and heredity.
Chiropractic is the largest, drugless, natural healing profession in the world,
which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself
without the use of drugs or surgery.
The key to understanding Chiropractic is to remember that health comes from
within, and Chiropractic targets the healing power within your body to create an
abundance of vitality and wellness.
What is Manipulative Therapy?
An adjustment/manipulation is when a Chiropractor uses his hands/activator
(instrument) to properly fine tune the areas of your spine, using a precise
amount of pressure. Sometimes you will hear "cracking" sounds as your joints
release. These "cracking" sounds are not your bones rubbing against each other
but bubbles of carbon dioxide gas releasing in the fluids between your joints.
It is a completely harmless side effect of an adjustment similar to "cracking"
your knuckles. This sound is not an indication of whether the adjustment is
successful. The Chiropractor will determine this by the release of tension under
his hands while performing the adjustment/manipulation.
